Environmentally Friendly Steel Building Solutions from Pioneer Steel

Carbon neutrality and sustainable green building design has been a hot topic in the media, and for good reason. We have been ahead of this trend with our pre-engineered steel building kits, which reduce waste with their longevity, use energy more efficiently with heat reflective materials and options like skylights, and lower the need for other materials like ductwork for HVAC systems with our clear-span designs.

We use only AZ180 (AZ60) Galvalume Plus™ coated steel when manufacturing our Pioneer Steel buildings. Galvalume Plus™ offers exceptional corrosion resistance and heat reflectivity, resulting in lower energy load and improved comfort. Additionally, Galvalume Plus™ steel is used due to its recycled content and the fact that it can be recycled post-use. This ensures reduced waste, pollution and an overall reduction of Pioneer Steel’s carbon footprint, and in turn, yours as well.

In fact, the total recycled content found in Canadian manufactured steel used for Pioneer Steel buildings is a minimum of 25% and can be greater than 95% depending on the steel making process. Both these values represent industry leading levels of recycled content. Steel is the world's most recycled material, and in North America, over 70 million tons of steel are recycled or exported for recycling annually.

The Galvalume Plus™ coating protects against non-uniform weathering and reduces energy loads on buildings due to its bright surface that aids in heat reflectivity. Pioneer Steel’s Galvalume Plus™ coating maintains the EPA solar reflectance requirement of 0.65 on newly manufactured steel buildings and the minimum of 0.50 on roofs over three years for age. Galvalume Plus™ coated steel has been approved by the Energy Star program, both for low-slope and high-slope applications.

The Galvalume Plus™ coating also acts as a thermal barrier to keep the insides of steel buildings cool in summer. This means that Pioneer Steel buildings use less energy, hence saving you money and lowering your environmental impact through reduced energy costs over the life of the building.

Conversely, Pioneer Steel buildings not only reflects heat in summer, but also retains heat inside during cooler months, saving on heating costs and keeping the indoor environment healthy and comfortable all year round.

Pioneer Steel Buildings are designed to be adaptable for retrofitting quality Energy Efficient Windows, HVAC systems, insulation products along with solar systems for reduced electrical consumption, which results in a lesser strain on the power grid.

Since our steel manufacturer is located less than 50 km from our facility, the transport of raw material is much lower than a lot of our competitors, reducing traffic on the highways and vehicle emissions. Combine that with the fact that your steel building is 100% recyclable post use, and you can see that our commitment to the environment is, and always has been, top notch.
